According to the company's official website, the coffee giant is rolling out its new Oleato line in Italy on February 22, 2023. The beverages will make their debut at the Starbucks Reserve Roastery Milan and in Starbucks stores in Italy, followed by Southern California this spring. Starbucks plans to introduce these flavours to the United Kingdom, Japan and the Middle East later this year. The stores in Italy will offer three drinks infused with extra virgin olive oil: Oleato Caffè Latte, Oleato Iced Shaken Espresso and Oleato Golden Foam Cold Brew.
The idea of introducing this flavour was born from a trip that outgoing CEO Howard Schultz took to Italy this summer. He was mesmerised by the Mediterranean culture of taking a spoonful of olive oil each day. Soon, he too began drinking olive oil with his coffee and decided that Starbucks should try to infuse the two together. "I was absolutely stunned at the unique flavour and texture created when the Partanna extra virgin olive oil was infused into Starbucks coffee," Schultz said. "In both hot and cold coffee beverages, what it produced was an unexpected, velvety, buttery flavour that enhanced the coffee and lingers beautifully on the palate," he further added.

Speaking of how excited he was to launch the new flavour, Schultz said, "Now, there's going to be people who say, "Olive oil in coffee? But the proof is in the cup. In over 40 years, I can't remember a moment in time where I've been more excited, more enthused that demonstrates the pride, the quality, the passion, the heritage and the craft of what Starbucks can do."
